Here are some favourite photos of Jai with Steve, Rich, Luisa and Rieko in Japan from 2007 and the eulogies Steve and Rich read at the Funeral Service.
STEVE:
Jai - a man of deep character.
Someone who chose to focus on who he was and how he lived rather than what he had.
Who looked beyond external appearance to connect with the person underneath.
An imposing physical presence coupled with gentleness, humility and sincerity.
A considerate and understanding support when times were tough.
Spiritualist, pragmatist, karate champion and comedian.
A “rough and tumble” uncle that would always stay to read stories.
My ever loyal friend, I will always cherish; our passion for real karate; our fascination with Japan; our common belief in the spiritual; our bad movie choices; our comedy nights and, most of all; those moments where we understood one another without having to speak
I will always appreciate the confidences you entrusted and, while you often never realised the impact you had on those around you, I feel proud to have called you “my friend”.
RICH:
Jai – loyal and loving friend, keen student, compassionate teacher to so many people both near and far. Jai came into all of our lives at different times – touching us all in his own personal and unique way.
For me Jai was all of the above and more. He was a soul mate – strong, gentle, compassionate, supportive, funny and calming. To take the title from one of our favourite books, (which we often had deep discussions about) that I feel sums up how Jai lead his life. He was a Peaceful Warrior.
I feel blessed to have had Jai walk into my life and will cherish the memories I have of the times we spent together in my heart until we next meet again.
